How to Decorate your Room for the Holidays
Hi there. Tis the season for decorating!
Of course the focus of any room at Christmas is the tree, but after your tree is decorated, what about the rest of the room?
This holiday, let me show you how using your favorite tree theme to decorate your whole room can be easy, fun, and affordable.
When I look at any room my first thought is: what are the Key Impact Areas?
Rather than spreading bits of décor all over the room, selecting key spots to focus your décor is an easy way to create the most impact.
Identify the key areas, from large to small, that are the most eye-catching.
In this living room the Key Impact Areas I’ve chosen are the Window, Banister, Mantle and Table and Seating surfaces.
Next, Decide if area will be backdrop, theme or combination.
Backdrop displays are groups of basic, non-theme items like, undecorated garlands, wreaths, lights and ribbon.
Theme displays are made up of items that are icon and colour specific to the tree theme.
Combinations showcase a mixture of both backdrop and theme items.
So now let’s look at our 4 Key Impact Areas.
»These windows will be a backdrop display as it’s a large area.
For the windows I’ve hung 4 of these indoor/outdoor wreaths with suction cup hooks. I’ve added a few picks and ribbon lights to add interest and texture.
Now you’re probably wondering how will the windows look from the outside? Well, we will mirror the display on the outside of the window using the same wreaths
I’ve also added a pre-lit garland
onto the ledge below the window
decorated with a few more picks.
»On the banister I’m going to use a combination of backdrop and theme items.
For the railing I’m using this pre-lit garland decorated with these pre made bows and a few ornaments that match our theme.
Then I’m going to hang themed stockings running down the banister.
This is also a great idea if you don’t have a fireplace mantle in your room.
The other combination area is the mantle. Here I’m using a decorated mantle garland.
To create a vignette, I’m using these wooden block words, candles and candleholders.
On the other side, these fun holiday characters are going to look great.
A few stockings and holders and our mantle is done.
Don’t forget the mirror. As you can see, I’ve attached this pre-decorated theme wreath with a suction cup hook.
»Our last Key Impact Areas are the table and seating surfaces. These are going to be done with theme displays.
I’m going to use this table top tree set, and a clear glass bowl filled with ornaments in different colours. So easy and it looks great!
For the couch I’m going to add these adorable cushions and throw.
Now take a look at this completely decorated room — it looks gorgeous.
From the mantle, windows, to the table, seating, tree and bannister. The whole room decorated in your favorite Christmas theme.
Merry Christmas and Happy Decorating!
